Faucet Lamp (tie - Manufactured)

by Blanca Codina

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

The Faucet Lamp pours light instead of water. This luminous object preserves the curved silhouette of a faucet employing it for a different purpose. Functioning as a lamp further allows the faucet-shaped item to be displaced from its usual location in the kitchen or bathroom to other rooms in the home space. This lamp is part of a series of explorations into how existing forms can be employed for different functions, aiming to create new conversations around everyday objects.

The faucet lamp can be activated with a minimal touch on any part of its body, mimicking the sanitary features of touch-control faucets. This feature also fosters a more intimate and unexpected interaction with the object. The cable coming out of the lamp's base reveals its electrical functionality, even when the light is turned off.

PROJECT SPECS:

Dimensions: 40"H x 20"W x 4"D
Materials: Aluminum
Fabrication: Tube bending and welding. Removable base for disassembly and repair. Anodized finish
LED: Touch activated, integrated touch dimmer. 200Lm LED. 70'' cord length

Helios (tie - Manufactured)

by Studio Zoran Strijbosch

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

In ancient times, Helios was worshipped as the sun god, steering the sun's daily path across the sky in a golden chariot. His journey painted vibrant colors across the heavens, casting a mesmerizing glow upon the world.

Drawing from ancient concepts, “Helios” pays homage to light’s circular dance. This design invites interaction, allowing you to play with light’s intensity by moving the sphere. Just as Helios shaped the sun’s path, you become the one who controls the brightness, creating a captivating dance of light.

The objective was to craft a lamp that seamlessly blended elegance with a touch of playfulness, while delivering uniform and spherical light—an endeavor made challenging by the precise casting required. To address this challenge, we combined different materials, aluminum and acrylic, in the lamp's construction. Importantly, the spherical component can even be crafted from recycled waste materials, emphasizing our commitment to sustainability and innovative design.

PROJECT SPECS:

Helios, an electric lamp, draws inspiration from ancient myths. Crafted with a solid aluminum base (CNC milled then polished by hand) and a hand-casted acrylic sphere, it encourages users to adjust light intensity. Each hand-crafted casting results in shapes and patterns as unique and unpredictable as the celestial realm. Importantly, the spherical component can even be crafted from recycled waste materials. Aluminium: 150x90x90MM, Casted acrylic sphere: 250x105x105MM

BIO: Studio Zoran Strijbosch emerges from an unwavering passion for the fusion of (Art)history and Design. In a world often preoccupied with efficiency and the future, Our studio’s mission is to craft products that beckon those who yearn to step back in time. PlankNPlay - Professional

by Thalis Nicolaou Studio

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Plank N’ Play is an innovative flat-pack lamp that seamlessly merges form and function. Our primary goal was to reimagine lighting design, focusing on sustainability and user engagement. Plank N’ Play challenges convention by harmonizing a natural wood receiver with a contemporary painted-finish base, highlighting material contrast. Overcoming the challenge of wood's traditional insulating role, we introduced magnetic connectors to transfer electricity from the base to the receiver. This empowers users to precisely control light intensity through advanced dimmer technology discreetly integrated within the base (source). Plank N’ Play stands out through the receiver's versatility – easily flipping to change the lamp's orientation, providing a dynamic lighting experience. In tandem with a user-centric design, Plank N’ Play showcases environmental responsibility with its flat-pack construction, significantly reducing transportation emissions. It allows users to personalize their lighting experience through intuitive touch commands, fostering a sense of ownership and interaction.

PROJECT SPECS:

Assembled dimensions: L19cm x W12cm x H37cm. When packed: L40cm x W12cm x H4.8cm. The receiver is CNC formed and is made out of solid wood (walnut, oak, maple). The frosted acrylic lamp shade is CNC machined. The base is also CNC’ed wood (plywood) and polyurethane spray-painted finish. We can consider casting the base part. The electronic enclosure features magnetic ferritic stainless steel, while the power supply comes with a round grey rayon cable.

Pepper - Student

by Studio Lessoni - Alessa Joanna Grotz and Franziska Antonia Hammer

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Pepper is designed with the intention of creating a portable luminaire that allows atmospheric and functional light. The user is able to adjust the lighting situation by rotating the shell for direct or indirect lighting and the possibility to dim mechanically. The luminaire wraps the room into a soft light by indirect wallwashing, but also offers the option for a direct reading light, which makes it the perfect bedroom lighting. The wall mount magnetically holds the luminaire and functions as inductive charging station, allowing Pepper to be moved, creating a distinct ambience literally anywhere. Pepper is created with an holistic circular design concept and therefore, fully dismountable and repairable.

PROJECT SPECS:

LED fixture is 2700K, 5V, 600Lm
DIMENSIONS: 62mm x 62 mm x 370mm
MATERIALS: Body, lampshade and wall mount made in aluminium, diffusor in opal acrylic. (Current prototype is made with 3D printed PLA with 10% elephant grass, the final product would be using extruded aluminium or injection moulding)
